KYC Verification at Irish Casinos

Every licensed casino must verify who you are before it can release a withdrawal. The good news: if you do it right the first time, it's a 15-minute job that never comes back. This is the exact checklist our editors use.

Editor's tip. Complete KYC before you request a withdrawal, most delays we've measured come from players uploading documents only after they've hit the cashier. On Malina and Mafia we verified in 4 hours on a Tuesday morning; on a Sunday night the same upload took 26 hours.

The 4 documents you need

  1. 1

    Photo ID

Irish passport, driving licence (front + back), or GNIB card. Take the photo flat, no glare, all four corners visible.

  2. 2

    Proof of address

Utility bill, Revenue letter or bank statement issued in the last 90 days. Your name and Eircode must match your account.

  3. 3

    Proof of payment method

Screenshot of your Revolut/AIB app showing the last 4 digits of the card and your name. For crypto, a signed message from your wallet.

  4. 4

    Source of funds (larger withdrawals)

Only requested if you withdraw over ~€2,000. Payslip, contract or business invoice, the compliance team is required by AML law to ask.

What actually trips Irish players up at KYC

Verdict-first breakdown from real 2026 casework across our five audited brands.

Most Irish casino withdrawals are delayed by one avoidable issue: the name, address or payment method on the account does not match the KYC document exactly. If your casino is licensed under Irish rules in 2026, expect identity checks before a first withdrawal, sometimes before a large deposit or bonus payout. Prepare clear documents early and you can usually finish verification in minutes rather than lose a weekend waiting.

The PPS number causes regular confusion. A legitimate casino may ask for proof of identity, age and address, but it should not normally need your PPS number simply to verify a casino account. Your PPS number is sensitive personal data. Do not upload a Public Services Card, Revenue letter or payslip if the PPS number is visible, unless the operator has given a clear legal reason and a secure redaction option. Cover the PPS number before uploading, while leaving your name, issue date and address readable where required.

For photo ID, an Irish passport is usually the simplest option. A current passport card can also work where the casino accepts it, though a full passport book is more widely recognised by automated systems. GRAI, the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, is expected to tighten operator standards around age verification, customer due diligence and safer gambling controls during 2026. That means blurred selfies, expired passports and cropped documents are less likely to pass on a second look.

Your proof of address should be recent, normally dated within 90 days. An Eircode utility bill is accepted by many casinos if it shows your full name, residential address, billing date and provider branding. Electricity, gas, broadband, local property tax correspondence and bank statements are common choices. Mobile phone bills are often rejected. So are screenshots from a shopping app or a letter addressed to “The Occupier”.

Here is the practical split most players encounter:

| Usually accepted | Commonly rejected | |---|---| | Current Irish passport, full page visible | Expired passport or cropped passport photo | | AIB, Bank of Ireland or Permanent TSB statement, PDF or full screenshot | Screenshot with account holder name missing | | Revolut bank statement showing name, address and date | Revolut card screen or transaction-only screenshot | | ESB, Bord Gáis or Virgin Media bill with Eircode | Mobile bill, delivery receipt or handwritten tenancy note | | Current driving licence, if accepted by the casino | Damaged ID, edited image or black-and-white photocopy |

Revolut is a frequent sticking point. The casino needs evidence that the Revolut account belongs to you and, where relevant, that it was the source of the deposit. Use the statement feature in the Revolut app, ideally a generated PDF showing your full legal name, address, account details and statement date. A screenshot of the home screen showing only a balance of €42.18 will not prove much. The same principle applies to AIB and Bank of Ireland screenshots. Include the account holder name, bank branding, relevant transaction or account details, and do not crop away the date.

Aoife in Dublin D02 ran into this in February 2026. Her first withdrawal check failed because she uploaded a Revolut card image rather than a statement. Her second attempt failed because her utility bill used “A. Murphy” while her casino account said “Aoife Murphy”. On the third submission, she sent a full Revolut PDF and an ESB bill after changing the casino profile to match her passport. Verification took just under six hours. Annoying, yes, but not unusual.

Match every detail before you upload. If you registered as Cian O’Brien but your bank statement says Cian O Brien, contact support and ask whether the punctuation difference needs a profile amendment. If Niamh has recently moved from Galway to Limerick, do not use an old address merely because it matches the casino account. Update the account first, then submit current proof.

Use this 90-second check before pressing upload:

1. Check that your first name and surname match your casino profile character for character.

2. Confirm the document is current, readable and fully visible, with all four corners shown where possible.

3. Use a passport or driving licence for identity, not a social media profile or a scanned photocopy.

4. Choose a proof of address dated within 90 days, showing your Eircode and full address.

5. For Revolut, AIB or Bank of Ireland, generate a statement or capture a full screen with your name and bank details visible.

6. Hide your PPS number and unnecessary card numbers. Leave only the data needed for verification.

7. Check the deposit method. If you deposited by card or e-wallet, the casino may request proof that you own it.

8. Upload original PDFs or high-resolution colour images. Do not edit, filter or compress them.

KYC is partly about fraud prevention and partly about Irish gambling compliance. It can feel intrusive, particularly after you have already made a deposit, but an operator that cannot establish who is playing should not process a withdrawal. The fastest route is boring but effective: accurate account details, current documents and no unnecessary personal data exposed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What documents do Irish online casinos need for KYC verification?+

Irish casinos commonly ask for a valid passport or Irish driving licence, plus proof of address dated within the last 90 days. A utility bill showing your name, address and Eircode, or an AIB, Bank of Ireland, PTSB or Revolut statement, is usually accepted. They may also request evidence that a card or bank account belongs to you, with unnecessary digits hidden. A PPS number is not a standard KYC requirement, and the operator should explain any lawful need for it.

How long does casino verification take in Ireland?+

Automated identity checks can clear a passport and selfie within minutes, but a manual review usually takes 24 to 72 hours after all documents arrive. Weekends, public holidays, blurred images and mismatched names can add time. A source of funds review often takes 2 to 5 business days, and complex cases may take 10. Withdrawal processing by the casino and bank transfer time are separate, so an approved KYC check does not guarantee same day payment.

Do Irish online casinos need my PPS number for KYC?+

Usually, a PPS number is not needed to verify an Irish casino account. A passport or driving licence proves identity, while a recent bill or bank statement proves address. PPS numbers are restricted personal identifiers, so an operator should state its legal basis and why less intrusive documents are insufficient. Do not send a Public Services Card or unredacted PPS correspondence merely because a generic upload form requests it. Ask the operator's data protection contact first.

Will an Eircode utility bill count as proof of address?+

A proof of address normally needs your full name, current residential address and an issue date within the previous 90 days. An electricity, gas, broadband or fixed line bill with an Eircode is commonly accepted. A PDF statement from AIB, BOI, PTSB or Revolut can also work if the logo and account details are visible. Screenshots, mobile phone bills, edited PDFs and envelopes are often rejected. If your Eircode does not match, contact support before uploading anything.

Why is an Irish casino asking for source of funds documents?+

Source of funds checks are anti money laundering reviews, not an extra wagering condition. There is no single Irish EUR deposit or withdrawal threshold that automatically applies to every player, because checks are risk based. A casino may ask after unusually large deposits, rapid payment changes or spending inconsistent with the account profile. Typical evidence includes 3 months of AIB, BOI, PTSB or Revolut statements, recent payslips, Revenue records, or documents for a property sale, inheritance or investment withdrawal.

Can an online casino hold my withdrawal until KYC is complete?+

An operator can pause a withdrawal while it completes proportionate identity, age, payment ownership, sanctions and anti money laundering checks. This commonly happens on a first cashout or after changing from a bank card to Revolut. Upload clear documents in the account holder's name and answer requests promptly. Bonus terms, for example 35x wagering, remain separate from KYC. If the review exceeds the published timeframe, make a written complaint, then use the named ADR service or GRAI process where applicable.
